Il viaggio che si intraprende ascoltando il nuovo lavoro di Gilmour passa anche attraverso “Faces of Stone”, canzone dedicata alla madre e che affronta un tema delicato come le malattie senili. Si rivolge a quel momento particolare della vita nel quale si guarda al passato e si fa un bilancio del vissuto che giunge al termine, ma che quasi sempre coincide con l’arrivo di una nuova vita, come in questo caso fu per Gilmour l’arrivo della figlia.
“Rattle That Lock” è stato prodotto da David Gilmour e Phil Manzanera dei Roxy Music. A firmare buona parte dei testi delle canzoni del quarto album solista di David Gilmour è Polly Samson, storica collaboratrice e compagna di vita di Gilmour.
Il suggestivo artwork di “Rattle That Lock” è stato realizzato da Dave Stansbie di The Creative Corporation sotto la direzione creativa di Aubrey Powell di Hipgnosis.

‘Faces Of Stone’ is written by David Gilmour and taken from his No. 1 album ‘Rattle That Lock’. The song is a reflection on mortality and the cycle of life, while the video, directed by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis, combines footage of David filmed at his Medina studio with archive footage featuring the Ukrainian born and celebrated surrealist filmmaker Maya Deren (1917-1961). Rattle That Lock is David Gilmour’s fourth solo album and follows his 2006 #1 On An Island. The primary lyricist for the new album is Gilmour’s long-term writing partner, novelist Polly Samson, and it is co-produced by David Gilmour and Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera. Rattle That Lock’s striking cover has been art directed by Dave Stansbie from The Creative Corporation, under the creative directorship of Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis.
